Online job hunting has become the norm. With so many people having access to the internet, there's a great deal of competition when it comes to applying for jobs posted online - especially on big job boards. So how do you increase your chances of success? Job boards have many features to help you target your search and apply for jobs that are most in line with your experience and interests. You can filter your search to yield opportunities that fit your criteria, including location, job title, salary, and so on. You can set up your account so that you're alerted when jobs that match your profile become available. Be sure that as your search evolves, you keep your profile updated as well.
If you post your resume online or apply for a specific position, keep in mind that it will be searched and ranked based on key words. Be sure to review the online Resume Builder Worksheet and put terms and descriptors in your resume that the employer will likely look for.

Don't get caught in the job board trap
If you're not getting results using job boards, then it's time to try a different approach. There are opportunities that you are surely missing if you limit yourself to job boards alone. Posting jobs online costs the employer, and not all companies are willing to foot the bill. There is also a cost in terms of time, since the volume of resumes and applications that come in from online job postings is enormous. While job boarding can be fruitful, be sure to use other approaches - especially networking - to ensure your job search is as rounded out and successful as possible. |
