Quick Tips
Dos & Don'ts to advance your job search
Use job boards to:

  • Actively apply for posted positions.
  • Post your resume so employers can find you.
  • Identify recruiters in your area of interest.
  • Research networking possibilities.
  • Validate your market worth.

Use them as a research tool
Job boards reflect current marketplace trends. Consider the information you get simply by browsing job boards, such as which companies and industries are hiring, and where. You can use this knowledge in your networking activities. Companies may not have publicly advertised jobs, but you know that there is hiring activity going on in the market based on what you see happening on job boards. Be a sleuth and use job boards to identify opportunities in the hidden job market. What a way to get to the front of the line!

Get an edge over the competition
Don't limit yourself by looking at and applying to only one class of jobs on job boards. If you wonder why you're not experiencing success, it could be because you're too narrowly focused. Consider broadening your search to include different opportunities. Browse other industries and categories on job boards to see if they interest you, and whether your skills and experiences are readily transferable.
