There are a number of things to keep in mind when establishing and building relationships with recruiters:
- Be clear about your career objectives and know how to articulate them to recruiters in your first communication.
- Have more than one recruiter contact, as they will likely have a different portfolio of opportunities that come up.
- Staying focused will help you build better relationships with recruiters.
- Although it might be nice just to call and say hello, make more of an impact by calling to report a significant occurrence in your career (eg. landing a new job, receiving an award, etc.).
- Always keep your resume up to date so you can produce a current one immediately upon request.
- Be prepared to help recruiters by providing them with referrals and other information.
