Quick Tips
Dos & Don'ts to advance your job search
Most people don't prepare adequately for interviews. By making an effort to prepare, you'll not only perform better, you'll also stand out from the competition. Don't worry about "over preparing" - it's better to err on the side of too much preparation than not enough. Give yourself an edge and start preparing today.

Prepare
Interviewing can be extremely nerve-wracking, especially if you haven't had much experience. If you want to make your best impression, it's important to be well-prepared.

  • Gather information and news about the company from their website and other online sources.
  • Talk to people in the industry and company, if you can do so without violating the confidentiality of the search.
  • Prepare your list of references and print out at least two copies.
  • Pick your outfit.
  • Review your resume carefully and bring several extra copies
    with you.
  • Anticipate possible interview questions, including those about your work experience, academic history, skills and accomplishments, career objectives, familiarity with the organization, and compensation.
  • Rehearse your responses.
  • Double check the address and directions.
  • Give yourself plenty of time to arrive prior to the interview.

Get an edge over the competition
Before an interview, it's also important to prepare yourself psychologically. Psyche yourself up and work on your attitude so you're ready to approach the interview in a positive and open frame of mind. Before your interview, make sure you get plenty of rest, have a nutritious, light meal, and avoid any stressful people or situations.
