| Make following up a habit. Throughout your job search, be sure to follow up with your recruiter, mentors, coaches and confidants. Review key details and keep them updated on your progress. Ask for advice on how to proceed and consider discussing your alternatives. Not only will they lend a supportive ear, they may be able to talk and walk you through any areas of concern. During the interview and at each subsequent contact, get permission in advance about how and when to best follow up with your interviewers. If you had multiple interviewers, contact each of them individually with a written thank you. Following up will demonstrate your continued interest, but ensure you don't become a pest. |

| Get each person's business card at the time of the interview or meeting. Find out during the interview when they expect to make the hiring decision, and ask if you can follow up on a certain date. Follow up with a thank you note (email is fine) to each interviewer within 48 hours. Express your enthusiasm for the position without appearing desperate. Follow up with your references, indicating that they may soon be contacted. |
