Quick Tips
Dos & Don'ts to advance your job search
Be politely persistent in your follow up communications. Restate your strengths and experience, and emphasize how you are an excellent fit for the position and the company.

Be politely persistent
The hiring timeline is usually quite a bit longer than anticipated, because there are so many unpredictable variables involved. Trust that all stakeholders are well intentioned in making things run quickly and smoothly. At the same time, recognize that "stuff happens" - you likely experiencce that in many areas of your life. Following up is important, but do so at appropriate times. Don't appear impatient, as this may suggest desperation. Be politely persistent, and don't give up just because you haven't heard back promptly.

Get an edge over the competition
Following up should be a habit you get into in all your professional interactions. It's a networking necessity, and demonstrates courtesy, interest and gratitude. Whether it's a contact you met and have a personal interest in keeping in touch with, or a referral from someone else, it's in everyone's best interest if you follow up. Do it professionally, and promptly. If you've made any promises to give out information or coordinates, then follow through with your promises. The investments you make now will pay off in the future.
