Quick Tips
Dos & Don'ts to advance your job search
  • Ensure that you are compensated for the working notice period as outlined in your employment agreement.
  • Don't be shocked or insulted being walked out is common practice in many companies.
  • Don't make a scene or react in an emotional manner.

Prepare to be walked out
Even if you are on good terms with your employer and have done all the right things, including giving adequate notice, be prepared to walk out the day you resign. Rather, prepare to BE walked out. Some companies may well keep you around to tie up loose ends. Other companies don't want to risk having a potentially disgruntled or disinterested employee have access to the building and the company files. Furthermore, they may not want to expose remaining employees to a disengaged, potentially toxic colleague.

Get an edge over the competition
Prior to your resignation, make sure you have all of your personal files, electronic and otherwise. Make sure all of your personal effects can be easily collected from your work space. Have your work ID and any property (laptop, mobile, etc.) on hand to turn over immediately.
